Meet Our Staff
K3-K4Mrs. Barbara Philips is a native of Buckhannon and grew up climbing trees and doing anything else her brothers could do. She is married to Pastor Dave Philips. Together they have two sons, both graduates of ECS, and two grandchildren. Mrs. Philips has taught at Emmanuel for twenty-two years and enjoys working with all her little ones.
K5Mrs. Mary Kemp is a native of Florida. She and her husband Ryan have one son and one daughter. They currently reside in Fairmont.
1st GradeMrs. Joanne Riggs was born into a military family in Japan, and her family eventually settled in Southern California where she grew up. Mrs. Riggs is the wife of Joseph Riggs, pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Mrs. Riggs taught K5 from 1980-1986, and assumed her current position in 2006. Mrs. Riggs states that she came to Christ as her Savior as a direct result of the influence of godly Christian school teachers.
2nd GradeOur second grade teacher, Mrs. Alison Day, originally from Chattanooga, Tennessee, grew up in the Carolinas. She is married to Stephan Day and has two children. She enjoys reading and singing. A favorite Scripture passage is I Corinthians 15:57.
3rd GradeHailing from Connecticut, Mrs. Diana Williams realized at an early age that the Lord was giving her a desire to be in the ministry as a pastor's wife and a Christian school teacher. Mrs. Williams is married to a pastor, Frank Williams, whom she met while in college. They have two children who attended ECS. Mrs. Williams has taught at Emmanuel for the past fifteen years. Proverbs 3:5-6 are verses that give her great encouragement.
4th GradeMrs. Helen Elbert was born in Wheeling, but was raised in Ohio. She has lived in Clarksburg for nearly seventeen years. Mrs. Elbert, her husband Coach John Elbert, and their three children have been a part of Emmanuel Christian School since 1996. In her spare time, Mrs. Elbert enjoys reading, sewing, and playing the piano. Her life's verse is Philippians 4:4.
5th/6th GradeMrs. Pam McDaniel was born and raised in upstate New York near the Canadian border. She and her husband Jim McDaniel have two children. Mrs. McDaniel's favorite activities include reading and scrapbooking as well as feeble attempts at gardening. A verse that has meant much to Mrs. McDaniel is Joshua 1:9.
5th/6th Grade, Jr. High English, Computer/YearbookMrs. Kerri Smith is no stranger to Christian education. During her teen years, she attended a Christian school where her father was the administrator and her mom was a teacher. She has taught at ECS for the past three years. Mrs. Smith is married to Grant Smith, and they have two children enrolled in ECS. Quilting is a favorite activity as are reading, singing, and watching her children play in sports. Mrs. Smith's life verses are found in Lamentations 3:22-23.
Spanish, Music, Senior High Fine ArtsMrs. Sunny Fetty is a pastor's daughter and has served as her church's pianist for thirty years. She oversees the fine arts program at Emmanuel Christian School. She teaches K5 through 6th grade music and senior high choir. In addition she teaches Spanish 1 and 2 in the high school as well as beginning Spanish to the elementary students. She also teaches private piano lessons. Mrs. Fetty and her husband Daran reside in Fairmont with their four children.
Secondary Sciences, Sr. High English, Jr. High Fine ArtsMrs. Elizabeth Fitch grew up in Memphis, Tennessee in a pastor's home. During the past 31 years, she has taught in numerous Christian schools including one in South Korea. She is married to Larry Fitch, and they have four children and three grandchildren. The book of Philippians has been a lifetime favorite Scripture passage.
Junior High Keyboarding, Study Skills, Physical Education, Lunchroom DirectorBorn in Akron, Ohio, Mrs. Shelia Law has been involved with the ministry of Emmanuel Christian for many years. She has been married to her husband Ed for thirty-six years, and they have two children. Her favorite verse in the Bible is Romans 5:8, and besides teaching she enjoys gardening, music, sewing, and designing.
Secondary Social Studies, Journalism, Health, Family LivingA native of the Clarksburg area, Mrs. Kim Maditz and her husband Tom have six children and five grandchildren. She loves spending time with her family as well as reading, traveling, and eating out. A Bible passage that encourages her as a teacher is Ephesians 5: 15-16, which teaches the importance of redeeming the time.
Boys' BiblePastor Ben Moses serves as the youth pastor at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Pastor Ben is the oldest of twelve children, and he grew up in Waterford, Michigan. He and his wife Sarah have three children—two girls and one boy. Pastor Ben enjoys any type of outdoor activity especially if it involves teenagers. The book of James is his favorite Scripture passage.
Secondary Mathematics, Girls' Bible, SpeechMrs. Jeannie Thomas was born in Maryland, but has lived many places both as an air force kid and now as an army wife. She and her husband Troy have two children. Mrs. Thomas's favorite thing to do is working math problems with students. She also enjoys attending ladies' Bible studies, reading a good book, or taking a walk in the woods with her dog.
